Admissions Requirements for the HOKO

Age: You should be at least 16 years old by the end of first 6 months of your apprenticeship in order to complete your training in all areas.

Taster reports: Participation in taster days for the hotel communication specialist (HoKo), restaurant specialist (ReFa), hotel specialist (HoFa) professions, or in basic commercial training in the HGT sector (KV HGT).

School visit: Participation in an EHL Campus Passugg "Open Day" or school visit.

Previous Education Requirements: You must have completed your compulsory secondary education.

Languages: The language of instruction for the apprenticeship is German. You should also have a basic knowledge of English and French or Italian.

Start Dates & Deadlines

Application Deadlines: To guarantee a place on the course, we recommend that you complete your entrance test at the end of the 2nd year, or at the beginning of the 3rd year of the upper-secondary level of Swiss education.

Admission procedures are conducted on a rolling basis. However, the earlier you apply, the earlier your application will be considered.  

The apprenticeship starts in August of every year. (The semester schedule below is subject to change).

Spring semester

  • January: Internship semester for the 1st and 2nd apprenticeship years.  Check-in for 3rd year apprenticeships.
  • Easter break
  • After Easter break : Qualification procedure for the 3rd year apprenticeships (Hoko)

Fall semester / start of the apprenticeship year

  • August: Check-in for 1st & 2nd apprenticeship years.  Internship semester for 3rd apprenticeship year.
  • Autumn holidays
  • Mid-December: Start of internship for 1st and 2nd year apprenticeships.
